Scanning, Tagging, and 3D Organization Support.

Getting Started

First Time Setup

System Requirements

Requires iOS 18 or later. Scanning a new room needs a LiDAR sensor (iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro/Pro Max models, or a LiDAR-equipped iPad Pro) — on other devices the Scan button is disabled, but you can still browse and manage any spaces already scanned. Seekr is free, with no in-app purchases or subscriptions.

Initial Scan Guide

  • Grant camera access when prompted — it's the only permission scanning needs.
  • Move around the room slowly and steadily so RoomPlan can track walls, doors, windows, and furniture.
  • Follow the on-screen and haptic guidance, then review the model before saving.
  • Start with a small room to get a feel for the walkthrough.

Finding Your Way Around

Seekr opens to four tabs — Home (attention summary, quick capture, shopping list), Spaces (your scanned rooms and the whole-home 3D view), Search, and Stats. Scan Room and Settings are one tap away from Home.

Scanning & 3D Reconstruction

How accurate is the 3D scanning?
Seekr scans rooms with Apple's RoomPlan framework, fusing ARKit tracking with LiDAR depth data to capture walls, doors, windows, and recognized furniture into an accurate 3D floor plan.
What can I do with the 3D model?
Each scanned room becomes an editable 3D model where you place, move, and organize inventory tags. From the Spaces tab you can also merge multiple scanned rooms into a whole-home 3D digital twin.
How long does a scan take?
Scanning happens in real time as you walk the room — most rooms take a few minutes, depending on size and how much detail you capture.
Can I scan without LiDAR?
No — RoomPlan requires a LiDAR sensor to scan new rooms. On devices without one, the Scan button is disabled and Seekr shows "RoomPlan is not supported on this device. Saved spaces remain available," so you can still browse and manage anything already scanned.

Tagging & Organization

How does the hierarchy work?
System uses 3 levels, color-coded the same way in the app itself:
  • Furniture: (e.g., Desk, Bookshelf)
  • Container: (e.g., Top Drawer, Box 1)
  • Item: (e.g., Passport, Pen)
Can I search across multiple spaces?
Yes. Search uses a prebuilt, relevance-ranked index across every space, so results surface quickly with their full location path.
Can I move tags?
Yes. Select a tag in the 3D view to reposition or rotate it, and use the parent picker to nest it under a different container.
What if I tag something by accident?
Deleting a tag shows an undo toast, and Seekr remembers your last-used category so repeated tagging — like a shelf full of books — stays fast.

Sync & Backup

Do I need Wi-Fi or the internet to sync between my own devices?
No. Local sync uses MultipeerConnectivity directly over your local Wi-Fi network and never touches the internet or a server.
How do I sync spaces to another of my devices?
Open Settings on each device and choose Sync — when both are on the same Wi-Fi network, Seekr discovers nearby devices and transfers spaces directly, no account needed.
Is my data secure during local sync?
Yes. Transfers use encrypted peer-to-peer connections and never leave your local network or touch a cloud server.
Does Seekr use iCloud at all?
Optionally. Settings offers iCloud Backup, which saves your spaces to your private CloudKit database so you can restore them on a new device, and Household Sharing, which invites other people to a space — its name, tags, and tag photos, not the full 3D model — through Apple's native iCloud sharing sheet. Both are off until you turn them on.

Data & Privacy

Where is my data stored?
By default, everything stays on your device — your 3D room models, AR world maps, and tag photos. If you turn on iCloud Backup or Household Sharing in Settings, that data (or a subset of it, for sharing) is also stored in your private iCloud account. The only third-party service Seekr talks to is Open Food Facts, for barcode product lookups, and only if you enable "Look up product info online" in Settings (off by default).
Can I back up my data?
Yes, three ways: iCloud Backup (Settings) saves to your private CloudKit database automatically; Export generates a PDF report, CSV spreadsheet, or insurance-claim PDF; and Archive Export/Import saves a single JSON file with every space, tag, photo, attachment, and 3D model file, which you can re-import later.
Does Seekr require an account?
No sign-up or login. Seekr only uses your existing Apple ID/iCloud account, and only for the optional iCloud Backup and Household Sharing features — everything else works without one.
Does Seekr use analytics or tracking?
No. Seekr's privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data types. Its only network requests are the optional barcode lookup and, if you enable it, iCloud sync.
What happens if I delete the app?
Local data is removed. If iCloud Backup was on, reinstalling and signing back in restores it; otherwise, export a JSON archive (or a CSV/PDF) from Settings first.

Troubleshooting

Scan quality is poor
Ensure adequate lighting. Move slower (1 ft/sec). Avoid mirrors/glass. Re-scan from multiple angles.
Can't find other device for sync
  • Make sure Seekr is open in the foreground on both devices.
  • Check that Local Network access is allowed for Seekr under iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.
  • Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Move the devices closer together if discovery is slow.
App is slow / Battery drain
Scanning is resource intensive. Close other apps. For very large spaces, try scanning in smaller sections. Battery drain during active scanning is normal.
RoomPlan says my device isn't supported
Room scanning requires a LiDAR sensor (iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro/Pro Max models, or a LiDAR iPad Pro). On other devices the Scan button is disabled — you can still browse, tag, and manage anything already scanned.
Barcode lookup isn't returning results
Barcode lookup is off by default — turn on "Look up product info online" in Settings first. It's opt-in because it sends the scanned barcode to Open Food Facts, a third-party product database. If a product isn't in that database or the request times out, Seekr automatically falls back to manual entry.
